Scott Morrison brings forward national cabinet meeting to discuss Australia’s response and potential further restrictions

New South Wales is investigating the possibility of further cases of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19 as the premier, Dominic Perrottet, has warned against “knee-jerk” reactions to the new strain.

The NSW health department said on Monday that urgent genomic testing was underway to determine if two passengers who arrived on a flight on Sunday and tested positive to Covid had the new variant.
