New South Wales is investigating the possibility of further cases of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19 as the premier, Dominic Perrottet, has warned against “knee-jerk” reactions to the new strain.

The NSW health department said on Monday that urgent genomic testing was underway to determine if two passengers who arrived on a flight on Sunday and tested positive to Covid had the new variant.
